My PC Building History

I have had all these pictures forever and I recently came across them again and I realized I have been building computers and into all of this for such a long time now. I thought I would put it all together in a post for myself and that way I'll have an easy link to my full history of my own setups. It is cool to see how all of this technology changes over the years. You will see how computer cases have changed over the years. Going from the classic beige drives, unpainted insides, and cool LEDS to fully blacked out everything and all the parts look good together. There is only 1 computer missing from this and it was my first computer I got from my parents. I guess it doesn't belong here anyway because I didn't build it but that was the computer I started on (and upgraded) playing Age of Empires, Rainbow Six Rogue Spear, and other classic games.

ATI Radeon 9800 Pro AMD Athlon XP 1600+ maybe?

Had to sit on my bed, not a real desk, my keyboard and mouse sat on a door type thing that had to rest on the cabinets below. Got my 17' CRT monitor, HP keyboard, some after market mouse with a thumb button (pretty new and awesome at time), TV, and N64 at bottom reppin. Even a lava lamp and little Canon printer. Microphone hanging from the top haha.

I may have had another case in between these builds but this is finally when I decided to only care about my computer. This was my first awesome case I loved. It was an Aspire Navigator (company now called Apevia). It had a temperature monitor built in, drive cover/door, cool leds, good organization inside. There was even a table and chair next to me for when friends came to LAN with me and set their computer up next to me. This had to be around 2006-2007.

So I said fuck that CRT one day and got a shitty 15' LCD (which eventually got a crack in the middle), got the original Z-Board, some Gaming Logitech Mouse, stolen Geek Squad mousepad, had a gamepad for madden but rarely played, leet chair that I still have, 7.1 Creative Surround Sound.

I eventually got a real monitor (which is no longer alive today). It was a Spectre 24in widescreen. Took advantage of dual monitors and always had music, Ventrilo, and XFire up on the secondary monitor.  I think I finished this build around 2008-2009. Notice the folding table still there haha.

After years with that acrylic case it got old real quick. Got flimsy and was such a pain to open and look at stuff. The crazy LED phase in cases was over. I moved on to an amazing FULL SIZE tower. I still have it today, my favorite case ever. There is so much room inside and organization. Drive trays, locks for cd/dvd drives (no more screws), fans everywhere, cable management, PSU on bottom. It is really nice and is air cooled well. I made this graphic below when Twitch first came out and I attempted streaming. Almost everything is different now. Current specs will be listed below pictures. This build was probably finished around 2010-2011.

I have also recently got my first server and NAS so I figured its relevant to mention them as I am still currently working on my homelab. Below is my Dell R900 and NetGear ReadyNAS 1000S. I actually just recently swapped out all the processors in the server. It came with x4 Intel Xeon E7340  (16 cores) and replaced them with x4 Intel Xeon E7450 (24 cores). Also has 32GB of RAM, I may end up adding more soon. I will talk more about these in a future post but I want to finish my Plex server and get this into production.
